Watering balls originated in Europe. Legend had it that fairies were attracted to brightly colored globes. So people added globes to their gardens to attract fairies for good luck, and to make things pleasant.
The globe shown here is a European water globe made in Poland in the traditional way. At the top of the globe is a ball that acts as a water reservoir. And then there is a long stem that is inserted into the dirt around the plant.
This globe is handmade and hand colored in the old European artists way by using colored glass pellets that are melted onto the globe so that the colors neither fade nor peel off the globe.
